“No
life without Facebook”, tell the people of India. But let us look into another
aspect of Facebook, through these bytes:
“I
use my Facebook account only in summer holidays, as I’m busy during my school
days”, utters Dakshyani a student of St. Joseph’s Public school.
When
it comes to Intermediate students, Facebook has become a common commodity for
them to browse their notifications, but not regularly. The engineering and
science students in Narayana, Chaitanya and other such strict institutions,
look into this aspect keenly and train the students to adhere themselves to
books and other kind of entertainment. As a proof to this information, a
research was kept recently to find out the percentage of students using this networking
site. A group of interns were sent to different colleges to estimate the total
bar graph population of these students. After doing so, the maximum height was reached
by Post Graduate students, the remaining showing less estimates.
Facebook’s
definition is mostly kept by the teenage population as a means of communication
among those who want to know the latest updates about their friends, relatives
and many others. It’s considered to be aura to be in air and able to say - “I
have a Facebook account”. The general mindset of having this site is behind the
person’s perception of his pals and his status quo to build up such an account.
Here are some of those examples-
Priyanka,
a student of St. Francis College said- “I created a Facebook account during my
eighth standard and since then, I have used it only three or four times,
because I was told to do so.” A similar situation was observed in most of the
students asked in that college.
Facebook
has reached the maximum level among those who watch soap operas, reality shows
and several competitions. Television, being one of the demanding modes of
communication, is connected to the various social networking sites, putting
Facebook at the topmost position. Hence, a majority of Facebook users include
undergraduate students, who get influenced by their friends and television
soaps.
A
workshop held in the year 2012, by Sreenath Srinivasan, a well-known Journalist,
also proved the fact of Facebook users. India ranks second in Facebook
spreading its hands mostly among the “young
population”. The workshop registered the number of youngsters, using this
networking site and was given a good finish, with the help of making more
accounts in other categories like Linked.in, twitter, pinterest etc.
In
the coming times, Facebook may turn out to be more active even among the
middle-age population, with continuous work of uploading pictures, chatting and
liking pages. Let’s hope that this sudden change will only increase the
intelligence of our viewers and not include them in the list of “Facebook Addictions”.
