Scope of mass communication and journalism

What is the status quo of this subject ?

IN FOCUS Get to know about the new subject Mass communication and Journalism, a newly                                   introduced subject in the twin cities of Hyderabad.

    Aparajitha Bukkapatanam

Hyderabad is one of the cities, which is concentrated with the most developed technologies, shopping malls, lifestyle and especially the younger generation. But there is one aspect it's lacking- the society's approach to academics. Till today we have seen many examples of teenagers and students who have excelled in various fields of academics like Sciences, Engineering, management and several others. But if there is one subject that is not visible is Mass communication and Journalism.

Recently we have witnessed the Gang-rape issue of Damini in Delhi, which evoked many students' spirits to fight against the corrupted issue and to gain justice for the girl's life and her family. This is where many newspaper, internet and television sources come into action. When a person wakes up in the morning, the first thing he does is, opening the newspaper. He will go through the headlines on the first page and starts reading it as it's meant to create interest in him.  Even a mother's ear yearns to listen to the news early in the morning on the radio. When it comes to television sources, we always have a habit of listening to the news headlines at night time around 9pm to develop our general knowledge. If it's the case of today's younger generation who are working for some software company or any other job, he/she would download the latest apps on the samsung galaxy note, the Blackberry, the different versions of iPhone or the easy to carry iPad. Wherever you see, there is lot of development to look into the news or your favourite shows on the televisions or other electronic gadgets.  In all these fields the major concept, which plays an important role is communication. Communication of news, your favourite shows, videos or songs are possible only because of  journalists, editors, photographers, camera persons and several other people who are working hard to propagate the news through various sources. Then why can't a student take up the option of choosing mass communication as her favourite subject? Here arises the question. States like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai are concentrated with many journalists and students of mass communication who are at "cloud9". Almost everyone is preferring communications to other subjects as they feel they should make a difference in their life and achieve a standard point. So are the students in Hyderabad thinking of taking up this new subject, which has the greatest scope in the coming future. Its only that few parents don't cooperate with their children. But its time to open their eyes and go into a different world where talent, enthusiasm, hard-working nature, vocabulary skills and certain leadership qualities are mainly taken into consideration, when compared to other qualifications.  Mass communication and journalism has emerged as a new subject in Hyderabad recently and is not becoming famous as expected. It created a rage in other twin cities, improving the future younger generation to blossom in their interests of learning this exciting subject.

So should the people of Hyderabad realise the importance of this new subject and encourage their children to take up this new, but a wonderful subject. There is one aspect which has to be discussed very keenly that many parents get perturbed of the present politics in Hyderabad regarding many issues like the Telangana issue, The Akbaruddin Owaisi case and many other which are frightening even the smaller percentage of parents who are willing to encourage their children in this new field. But this fear can be removed at once when the student gets enough training in the outside world. The subject deals each and every aspect very clearly with regards to the training of the program, the experience the student needs to get and the precautionary measures during a particular situation. Mass communication is one such subject which sees through that the student is able to adjust in every kind of situation and is capable of fighting the case with braveness and patience.  Hence if there is a feeling among parents, it need not become a major issue, but rather as an unnecessary concern.

To fill in the details of this new subject, it has various fields like the Print media, the electronic media and the cyber media. Newspapers and magazines come under the print media. While, radio and television are the main sources of electronic media. The most famous and easy type of media i.e. cyber media includes social networking sites like facebook, twitter, Linkedln, Google+ , online news websites like yahoo, CNN-IBN, BBC news and many more. All these types of media provide information of  the happenings around the world and in our city. A journalist's job is to find out the various issues and to provide ample amount of information, so that the people of India get to know the latest news through their source of finding information and news. No matter where you go, news plays an important role in our lives and it is the responsibility of the journalist, the editor or the special correspondent to update us with the latest information. Hence, consider the 21st century generation plea of taking this subject as their future success and encourage your children to become the inspiring future of each and every person on this earth.

Anti-oxidant story

Excite your palate with an anti-oxidant salad

FOOD Enjoy a healthy salad this winter with a note of sweetness as well

 Aparajitha Bukkapatanam

This winter, go for something simple and delicious and enjoy the comfort of making an anti-oxidant salad at home. Anti-oxidants have been proved to be one of the major constituents to nourish your health and in maintaining your immune system perfectly. Let it be fruits or vegetables, anti-oxidants share the same characteristics of developing our immune system and to avoid diseases. Anti-oxidants play a major role in stopping the multiple growing of free radicals, which are capable of destroying your immune system causing serious health problems like cancer, brain dysfunction and heart disease. Hence, it’s necessary to have a proper intake of anti-oxidants and to be healthy and fit.

To do so, here is a simple anti-oxidant salad, which can be made in any season, to avoid the diseases. An amalgamation of pomegranates, grapes, mango or pineapples with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice is one of the best ways to enjoy the healthiness of the fruits as well as the zest of the lemon juice over the salad. Pomegranates are a rich source of Vitamin C, having a rich collection of flavonoids and potassium. Grapes, which is everyone’s favourite fruit, is also helpful in avoiding the heart diseases and Alzheimer’s disease, as they have a rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and carotenes. Speaking of pineapples, they are seasonal fruits, having excessive amount of Vitamin C and smaller amount of Vitamin A. They also have abundant b-complex vitamins like folates, thiamine, riboflavin and minerals like copper, manganese and potassium, which help in controlling heart rate and blood pressure.

Mango, being the King of Fruits, also adds a good taste to the salad, which is rich in beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, Vitamin A and C and potassium, which mainly look into curing heart diseases. Finally, the zest of lemon juice, which adds to the taste as well as the nutritional aspect, is important, as Lemon juice has a sum total of various elements like Vitamin B, C, phosphorus, proteins and flavonoids, which hold anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties.

Lastly, for chocolate lovers, the combination of your favourite chocolate along with the salad is always the best option to go for. Chocolates are rich in polyphenols, which contain flavonoids, to control the blood’s ability to clot, thus avoiding serious heart attacks and strokes. So, go for an anti-oxidant salad and enjoy the experience of having a nutritional salad and remain hale and hearty.
